CC3C #29: Eroded Metallic Pg. 44

Welcome to another installment of the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge, Vol. 3, hosted by Linda at Studio L3.  This is the Twenty-ninth challenge in where we work through the techniques of Tim Holtz from, you guessed it…his 3rd Volume of the Compendium of Curiosities!!  As in the past challenges, we can’t give details on the challenge, so don’t ask, but do go get your own copy of Tim’s fabulous book.  Also, InspirationEmporium has offered an extremely generous $50 Gift Certificate for all the odd numbered Challenges! So grab a copy, and join in to play!!  All the deets are here, at Linda’s blog!

OK…I confess...this is not my first project for this challenge; nor my second attempt at the technique, as I tried it with the Online Class, Creative Chemistry 102. I wasn’t terrible successful then, and my first attempt; a Trinket box, was Ok.  Then I took a look at the Curiosity Crew’s projects, and decided to give it one more go, on a paper Mache “K” that I had gotten as a gift from my good friend Hettie, and thought it would look great on.  If I didn’t screw it up…

And yeah! Much better.  I only have a few of the paints, so used Salty Ocean, Peeled Paint and Mowed Lawn as my base, and Bronze on top.  Sort of a patina feel to it.  The paper mache did bubble horrifically with the first coat where it got really wet; but the next day it had dried out nicely.  Then with the 2nd coat, even more bubbles formed where it was wet; I was afraid I’d pull some of the paper layers off, but it ended up being ok.  I added the lace, as I love it, and if I can’t use horded stash on my own projects for me, when will I use it?  The 7 as its my lucky number, and day of my birth (7/7), a few remaining gears,   Butterflies, as they are my thing, and I was planning on adding some flowers, only to remember I lent my Tattered Floral Garland die out, so I’ll do that later.

And, in true disclosure, here it is, my little trinket box, done with Salty Ocean and Broken China paints, then Pewter Distress Paint.  And this was the smallest saying I had that made sense, which covered up the best part of the erosion. Figures! LOL!  I added the flowers that have been in my stash forever, and used Glossy Enamel to add the centers.  I also added the tiny gears, to help reinforce the metallic aspect.

Now go visit the wonderful Curiosity Crew’s work to see how they showcased this cool Eroded Metallic effect! Have a great week everyone.

  1. Kim, I think you knocked it out of the park on your technique here! I love the colors you chose. Its fun and surprising how great some of the Distress Paint colors work for this tech, and the ones you've used are really great. Nice work!
